Scientific Field Visit by Chemistry Students to an Advanced Petroleum Processing Facility

On Thursday, February 5, 2026, under the supervision of Ms. Sameera Shukir Mohammed Ameen, fourth-year students from the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science, the University of Zakho, carried out a scientific visit to the Karband Company, one of the advanced facilities in the field of refining and chemical treatment of petroleum derivatives. The visit was conducted within the framework of emphasizing the practical dimension and strengthening the linkage between theoretical knowledge and applied science.

The visit aimed to achieve the following principal objectives:

• Bringing students closer to the chemical processes carried out inside oil refineries.

• Enhancing understanding of how large-scale industrial equipment is utilized in practice.

• Demonstrating the differences between laboratory-scale experiments and industrial-scale production processes.
