The Department of Environmental Science Conducts a Seminar

Dr. Hazhir Karimi, a Lecturer at the Department of Environmental Science/University of Zakho, is going to conduct an online seminar entitled “Petroleum Industry: Environmental Impacts and Mitigation Actions” for SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineering)-Erbil section.

Session overview:

The petroleum industry is counted as one of the major industries around the world. The importance of the petroleum industry is more vital in Middle East Region due to the huge revenues and the economic benefits it provides. Despite the advantage of being the main source of income, potential environmental hazards associated with the petroleum industry (e.g. pipelines, refineries, reservoirs) have significantly raised concern for public health and the natural environment. This presentation provides a general overview of the environmental impacts associated with the petroleum industry and how the potential hazards or impacts can be minimized.
