Dr. Yusif Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, announces that the ministry is starting a project on establishing a ranking list of universities in the Kurdistan Region. The minister also mentioned that the realization of this project can be seen as a national, scientific, academic, and legal duty to the people of the Kurdistan Region.

This announcement was given by the minister in a meeting, in order how to implement this project and how the universities of the Kurdistan Region cooperate with the ministry. The meeting was held on Sunday, the 29th of November 2015 at the Hall of Video Conferences in the building of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Participants of the meeting were Advisors of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, General Directors of the Divan of the Council of Ministers, all public University Presidents, and their respective Vice- Presidents for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies in the Kurdistan Region.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Yusif Goran presented the goals of the project, and announced that the ministry is taking the first steps of the project of setting the ranking of universities in the Kurdistan Region and the ministry saw it necessary to involve the representatives of the universities in this process before the formal implementation of the mechanisms of this ranking system. Furthermore, the minister high lightened the importance of this project on the development of the universities in the Kurdistan Region and also the Kurdish society.

Aiming to enrich the project, the representatives of the universities provided at the end of the meeting some suggestions and inspirations to the project.
