On Wednesday, 12th of April, 2017, a delegation consisted of Mr. Hozan Gorgeen Othman, the acting head of the English Department, Mr. Ivan Hasan Murad and Mr. Sabah Sulaiman Haji, both faculty members of the English Department, University of Zakho, participated in a series of workshops covering some areas of education and professional development. The workshops were sponsored by the American Department of State via the American Consulate General in Erbil and in coordination with Harold Samuels, the English Language Officer in Iraq.

The workshops were prepared and conducted by Professor Donna M. Brinton, an educational consultant who has held academic and administrative positions at the University of California, Los Angeles; Soka University of America; and the University of Southern California. More than ten universities from different parts of Kurdistan Region participated in the series of topics that were covered in the workshops. The topics were "Curriculum Design and Revision", "Content Based Language Teaching: Implementing the Model in Academic Preparation Programs", "English Language Teaching Methods – What"s New Under the Sun", and "Professionalizing the Profession".

It is worth noting that members of the English Department/ University of Zakho had a very active participation and engagement in the discussions, debates and activities that were carried out during the two-day event.
