Scientific Days at the College of Medicine – University of Zakho
2nd & 3rd September 2025
The College of Medicine, University of Zakho, is pleased to announce its upcoming Scientific Days, to be held on Tuesday, 2nd September 2025 and Wednesday, 3rd September 2025 at the College of Medicine. These two academic events will bring together distinguished faculty members, consultants, and researchers from the University of Zakho, the University of Duhok, and affiliated institutions to present and discuss key topics in medical science and clinical practice.
Day 1: Gynecology and Obstetrics (2nd September)
The first day will focus on advances and challenges in women’s health, featuring sessions on:
• Role of progesterone in obstetrics and gynecology
• Human papilloma virus (HPV) infection
• Principles of blood transfusion and acute transfusion reactions
• Surgical site infection
• Case presentations on Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP) in pregnancy and Ebstein Anomaly with pregnancy
This day will also highlight community-related research findings and provide opportunities for interactive Q&A and discussion.
Day 2: Internal Medicine and Metabolic Disorders (3rd September)
The second day will address pressing issues in internal medicine and endocrinology, with presentations on:
• Metabolic syndrome and its definition
• Metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD)
• Obesity and PCOS: “The Elephant in the Room”
• Endocrine and cardiac case discussions
• Surgical solutions to metabolic problems
A panel discussion on the consequences of metabolic syndrome will conclude the day, engaging experts in cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, and public health.
Student Presentation Competition
In addition to expert lectures and discussions, the Scientific Days will feature a student presentation competition, giving medical students the opportunity to showcase their research, case studies, and innovative ideas. This competition aims to encourage academic curiosity, develop presentation skills, and inspire the next generation of medical leaders.
