On Sunday, July 9, 2023, a group of students from the University of Zakho participated in the first University Debate Championship organized by the International Academy for Leadership and Development in collaboration with the Rwanga Organization, which was hosted by Nawroz University in Duhok.

The inaugural championship featured participation from 17 universities across the Kurdistan Region, including five from Duhok Province, among them the University of Zakho. The participating universities aim to secure top positions to qualify and represent Iraq in the World Universities Debate Championship. The top position holder will represent Iraq in the debate that is scheduled to be held in Qatar.
