As part of the weekly activities of the Department of English, on November 7th, 2017, a workshop was held for the faculty member Mr. Sabah S. Haji, at the Khalil Khayali seminar hall of the Faculty of Humanities. The seminar was entitled ‘Analysing Onomatopoeic Expressions in Bahdini Kurdish’, that is, a linguistic analysis of the words that represent natural sounds in everyday conversational Bahdini Kurdish. These natural sounds were classified into sounds of human beings, animals, insects, birds, objects and other natural phenomena such as the sound of rivers, waterfalls, trees, winds, thunder, clouds and earthquakes. It is worthwhile to mention that the seminar was attended by most of the administrative and teaching faculty members of the Department of English as well as some teachers from other faculties and departments and a noticeable number of students from the English language department. After the end of the seminar, the attendees asked the presenter some questions about various aspects of the seminar topic, which were in turn answered by the presenter.
