Under the supervision of the Presidency of the University of Zakho, and with the aim of supporting and encouraging innovative projects, a ceremony was held on Wednesday (February 11, 2026) at the University Presidency building to express appreciation and gratitude to the ECOSIA team. The honoring was conducted by Assist.Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hassan Khamo, Vice President of the University for Administrative and Financial Affairs, in recognition of the team’s dedication and continuous efforts in serving the environment and the academic community. What is Ecosia and Why is it Important? Ecosia is a search engine similar to Google and Bing, but it operates with a higher purpose. It is recognized as a charitable organization focused on environmental protection, dedicating the revenue generated from user searches to: * Planting trees around the world, especially in areas affected by desertification. * Supporting developing countries to increase green cover and improve the global environment. The Role of the University of Zakho Team in the Project Under the supervision of university lecturer Mr. Masoud Ahmed Hamid, and with the participation of a group of dedicated students and graduates, the team works to promote awareness and encourage the use of this search engine. The main objectives of the team are to: * Use technology in service of the environment. * Increase green cover at both local and global levels. * Encourage the academic community to adopt digital tools that benefit nature.
