The University of Zakho organized a five-day scientific and practical workshop aimed at enhancing psychological and educational competencies and promoting an inclusive learning environment for students, particularly those with special educational needs.

As part of its commitment to developing psychological and educational competencies, the Psychological Guidance Unit at the College of Basic Education, University of Zakho, in coordination with the General Directorate of Education in Zakho, organized a specialized scientific and practical workshop.

The workshop brought together a considerable number of teachers, trainers, psychological counselors, and staff from organizations working in the fields of psychology and special education. It was designed to strengthen participants’ professional knowledge and practical skills in supporting students with special educational needs.

The five-day program consisted of four hours of daily training, divided equally between theoretical and practical sessions. The theoretical component introduced participants to the latest concepts and scientific foundations in psychology, while the practical sessions focused on hands-on training and the implementation of evidence-based strategies for working effectively with students who require specialized educational and psychological support.

The workshop also sought to raise awareness of the psychological and social needs of individuals with special needs, introduce participants to contemporary scientific approaches for inclusive educational settings, and prepare qualified educators and counselors capable of identifying students’ strengths and challenges. In addition, the program emphasized providing comprehensive support that fosters students’ academic, cognitive, and psychological development.

Through initiatives such as this workshop, the University of Zakho continues to fulfill its academic and social mission by strengthening the connection between scientific knowledge and community service, while promoting inclusive education and advancing professional capacities that contribute to human development.
