The Department of petroleum Engineering was established in 2013 to help the local community with the current shortage of petroleum engineers. On the B.Sc. Petroleum Engineering degree students will study several core subjects during the first two years. These provide sound proportions for the final part of the degree. Students will concentrate on the fundamentals of Petroleum Engineering context. Courses tailored to the Petroleum Engineering discipline are available in years 3 and 4, and they will have a broad-based study path through a wide range of subjects. Also, students will undertake an individual project that usually takes the form of a field or research exercise and involves the production of a formal report. In addition, in the advanced stages, the curricula go in-depth to provide the students with knowledge and experience, enabling them to master and control these curricula and helpthem become experts in their specialty.
To qualify for the Bachelor's degree from the College of Engineering, all students must acquire 3300 hours (during eight semesters).
The Department offers a B.Sc. program in Petroleum Engineering and a two-year M.Sc., and four-year Ph.D. program.
Postgraduate programs
The department offers a Master's Degree (M.Sc.) in Petroleum Engineering in the following areas:
1- M.Sc. in Drilling Engineering
2- M.Sc. in Production Engineering
3- M.Sc.in Reservior Engineering
4- M.Sc.in Petroleum process
The duration of all master's programs is two years. During the first year, the students enroll in several courses that are compulsory to complete to start with the research portion of the program in the second year.
The department also offers a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Petroleum process
The duration of the Ph.D. program is three to four years. All doctoral students must complete five graduate courses in the first semester, and during the second semester in the first year of their Ph.D., Program, a formal assessment (known as proposal approved) of the candidate's research ability and the standard of their research will be undertaken by the department's monitoring committee. By the beginning of the second year, Ph.D. students should have a clear idea about the direction of their thesis. Students are expected to submit their thesis in around 3.5 years.
Department Mission
The Department of Petroleum Engineering will educate, conduct research, and train students for the region's exploration, development, production, and management of petroleum resources. This mission will be achieved through academically and technically planned programs. The program would emphasize integrated multidisciplinary teamwork in classrooms, laboratories, field observation, and research projects. Students graduating with a B. Sc. degree from us will be fully prepared to serve the industry and regional government. Their degree will be comparable to nationally and internationally recognized programs and students.
Department Vision
We want to be recognized for the quality of our teaching and training professionals in the petroleum engineering discipline. In addition, the department will benefit from links with the growing oil and gas industry and conduct significant research in this field. The graduate courses are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required by the petroleum industry (i.e., required to manage and operate oil fields effectively).
