Career Development Center builds an important link between the industry and academia. This connection can provide relevant input into current and future market needs to inform curriculum development within academia. Examples of CDC activities and projects include:
1. Establishing Internship Programs: An internship is a professional training experience for students. Internships provide an opportunity for students to gain exposure to the workplace and career options. Internships also provide professional development that classroom learning cannot emulate. In this regard, CDC cementer partner with local businesses to organize student internships. Internships typically occur while a student is still enrolled in regular classes. Duration of Internships vary; however, many internships require between 100 to 150 hours, during the academic year.
2. Soft skills: include communication, teamwork, time management, critical thinking, and problem solving. Career Development Center also help students present themselves professionally through training on topics such as a CV or resume writing, job interview skills, and job search strategies.
3. Relationships with Industry partners: Career Development center administration plays a central role in developing relationships with local, regional, national, and multinational businesses and employers. Businesses are often eager to collaborate with university career centers through on-campus events, training programs, industry advisory boards, and internship programs. Career center staff foster and maintain these relationships for the benefits of the students and the university.
4. Coordinating and organizing different training courses, workshops, seminars and conferences related to the student’s personal development and self-awareness.
5. Coordinating designing days and Job fairs.
6. Coordinating seminars, conferences and workshops related to Career Development CDC, and volunteerism.
