University of Zakho Advances the Academic and Scientific Development of Its Artificial Intelligence Engineering Program

As part of its commitment to advancing academic and scientific standards, the College of Engineering at the University of Zakho held its third specialized meeting to review and approve the curriculum of the Artificial Intelligence Engineering Department for the 2026–2027 academic year.

The meeting brought together a specialized joint scientific and academic committee comprising faculty members from the Artificial Intelligence Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, the Computer Science Department at the College of Science at the University of Zakho, and the University of Duhok.

To ensure a rigorous and academically sound evaluation process, Prof. Dr. Jasim Mohammed Abdo chaired the committee, with Prof. Dr. Ahmed Khorchid from the University of Duhok, alongside the participation of Prof. Dr. First Hito, Dean of the College of Engineering, and Prof. Dr. Diyar Ahmed Balij, Dean of the College of Science. The committee also included Prof. Dr. Adel Sabri, Prof. Dr. Karwan Fahmi, Prof. Dr. Abdulhakim Othman, Prof. Dr. Miwan Bahjat, Prof. Dr. Mayada Ramiz, Assistant Lecturer Shivan Abdulwahab, and Assistant Professor Kurdistan Mohsen.

During the meeting, the committee held detailed discussions on several key academic and curricular matters, resulting in the approval of a number of important recommendations:

Comprehensive Curriculum Revision: A comprehensive review and revision of the academic curriculum was conducted, covering all eight semesters of the undergraduate program.

Finalization of Course Structure: Following the preliminary work undertaken on the first- and second-year courses, the curricula and course structures for the third and fourth years were finalized and approved during this meeting.

Final Academic Approval: Following several days of detailed academic and curricular review, the revised curriculum was formally approved on 16 July 2026. In addition, a number of specialized faculty members from the Computer Science Department at the College of Science were designated to contribute to teaching courses within the program.

This initiative represents an important step toward aligning the Artificial Intelligence Engineering program with contemporary academic developments and global advances in technology and artificial intelligence. It aims to equip graduates with the knowledge, technical competencies, and practical skills needed to respond effectively to the evolving demands of the labor market and contribute meaningfully to society.
