On January 15, 2026, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Università degli Studi Internazionali di Roma (UNINT), Italy, and the University of Zakho, Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The MoU establishes a framework for academic cooperation and scientific research which ensures both institutions can share resources, expertise, and research projects. A key benefit is that scholarship opportunities will be created, enabling UNINT students to study in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, thus expanding their international experience and academic development.

This partnership commits both parties to developing joint initiatives in higher education, teaching, research, academic exchange, and related activities that foster scholarly engagement, international understanding, and cultural and scientific cooperation.

The MoU further highlights both institutions' dedication to building long-term relations through exchanges of knowledge, expertise, and best practices, supporting joint academic activities within institutional regulations and strategic priorities.
