On Thursday, November 6, 2025, with the presence of Guhdar Shekho, Director of the Zakho Independent Administration, and Dr. Diyar Abdulkarim Saeed, President of Zakho University, along with the university’s vice presidents, the Dean of the College of Medicine, the Dean of the College of Administration and Economics, as well as teachers, students, and sports enthusiasts from across the Kurdistan Region.

the College of Medicine at Zakho University organized a marathon for two main purposes:

1. To promote public health and social responsibility.
2. To encourage student and community activity toward adopting a healthy lifestyle.
   The event was organized with great care and coordination.

This activity coincided with World Diabetes Day and included three key segments:

1. Several educational programs and awareness sessions were held to spread public understanding about diseases, especially diabetes.
2. Since diabetes is often a silent disease, participants were encouraged to undergo checkups to become more aware of their own health status and seek treatment if needed.
3. The main segment was the marathon race, aimed at conveying the central message of the event — that regular physical activity and a balanced lifestyle are essential for preventing diabetes.

It was also announced that the activity would continue until the afternoon, and that a mobile clinic would operate at 3:00 PM in the Kelha Zakho area, offering free medical checkups for local residents.
