On February 26, 2024, the President, Dr. Nadhim S. Jacksi, along with the esteemed Dr. Zahid S. Muhammad, Dr. Jihan H. Omar, and Dr. Sabah R. Yaseen, participated in the meeting conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research under the theme “Combating the Use of Drugs and Psychoactive Substances.”

“Universities share the responsibility with the government for implementing a roadmap to fight against drugs," Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Aram M. Qadir, stated.

He also stressed the importance of the MOHESR’s vital role in raising awareness and combating drugs and psychoactive substances through focusing on skills, research, integrating drug issues into curricula, using media science, social media, and technology, and also establishing counseling centers for students in universities.

This meeting brought together many distinguished figures from public and private universities, members of the High Committee for Combating Drugs, advisors, and directors general, coupled with a number of teachers, researchers, lawyers, and experts at the Sheraton Hotel in Erbil.

In his last remarks, Dr. Aram M. Qadir hoped the meeting provided a roadmap for the MOHESR and institutions of higher education and served as a catalyst to actively participate in the fight against drugs and psychoactive substances. He further added that there are a number of talented people in different fields and specialties working on this lethal phenomenon in scientific ways.
