On Wednesday, the 12th of October, 2016 Assist. Prof. Dr. Lazgin Abdi Jameel, along with delegates from MHE-KRG went on a visit to Near East University in Cyprus, During that visit a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Near East University/North Cyprus and The University of Zakho wishing to promote co-operation in education and in academic research.
Some of the points mentioned in the MoU were as the following:

- Co-operation on academic programmes;
- The development of joint research activities;
- Facilitate academic and professional visits to both institutions;
- Organizing short-term courses/ training programmes/ language schools for international students;
- The exchange of information, including the results of teaching and research collaboration;
- Formalizing dual-degree program opportunities between partnering sides;
