On Sunday, February 27, 2022, the University of Zakho hosted the Basketball Championship of Kurdistan Region Universities. Seven universities participated in the tournament, namely: Zakho University, Salahaddin University, Sulaymaniyah University, American University, Duhok University, Tishk University and Komar University.

The opening match kicked off between the University of Zakho and the University of Sulaymaniyah team in the presence of the President of Zakho University, his assistants and deans of the faculties, in addition to a large crowd of university students.

Noteworthy, this is the fourth time in a row that the University of Zakho has hosted this tournament.
