College of Engineering Participated in the International SPE Mini-Symposium for the Petroleum Engineering Programs

On 14 June 2019, Mr. Alaa H. Taha- Deputy Dean participated in Petroleum Engineering Programs Mini-Symposium held by Society of Petroleum Engineering – Erbil Section under the title of “Petroleum Engineering Programs in Kurdistan Region Universities; Present Challenges and Future Scopes”. In the beginning, the SPE and its aims were introduced by its head in Erbil. The symposium was a platform for open discussion and idea exchanges among the heads or representatives of petroleum engineering departments in which a number of subject matters were discussed, such as:
1- The cooperation of Ministry of Natural Resources in regard to summer training courses, field trips, and facilitating necessities and information for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
2- The willingness of academic staffs of universities to be coherent and cooperative among themselves accordingly.
3- SPE from its side will be supportive in various ways, such as; providing necessary software; holding training courses and workshops; opening competitions among petroleum students in all universities in the region.
4- Establishing a committee made from the representatives of each of Universities of Kumar, University of Soran, and University of Zakho.
5- Deputy Dean (Mr. Alaa Haji Taha) requested for approval of founding an SPE chapter in University of Zakho. There is a great opportunity that it will be opened on October 2019 after meeting some of the conditions, namely; membership of 25 students and 3 academic staff in SPE as well as assigning a representative for supervision.
