Department of Mechanical Engineering

About

About

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 2014 to help the local community with the current shortage of mechanical engineers. Also, to help the community thrive and advance in all principal engineering sectors. This will be done through teaching, research, and service excellence in a rapidly expanding region.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering will be internationally recognized, as it will join the other departments in the College of Engineering that are successful and serve the community well. This Department has one of the most modern undergraduate programs in the region. It will become a center of advanced research in modern technology. Based on the intense needs of the region and the number of available opportunities, this Department will be the ultimate choice for the prospective students, faculty, staff, and local corporate employees who are currently in desperate need of mechanical engineers. The study duration is four years, during which the student will receive (240) ECTS matched with the ABET requirements and distributed over the eight semesters within four years.

The Department offers a B.Sc. program in Mechanical Engineering and a two-year M.Sc., and four-year Ph.D. program.

Postgraduate programs

The department offers a Master's Degree (M.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering in the following areas:

1- M.Sc. in general mechanics

2- M.Sc. in thermal power

3- M.Sc.in  Multiphase flow

4- M.Sc. in renewable energy

The duration of all master's programs is two years. During the first year, the students enroll in several courses that are compulsory to complete to start with the research portion of the program in the second year.

The department also offers a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in the following fields:

1- Ph.D. in thermal power (Multiphase flow)

2- Ph.D. in renewable energy

3- Ph.D. in manufacturing Process

The duration of the Ph.D. program is three to four years. All doctoral students must complete five graduate courses in the first semester, and during the second semester in the first year of their Ph.D., Program, a formal assessment (known as proposal approved) of the candidate's research ability and the standard of their research will be undertaken by the department's monitoring committee. By the beginning of the second year, Ph.D. students should have a clear idea about the direction of their thesis. Students are expected to submit their thesis in around 3.5 years.

Department Mission

The Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department will prepare its students to excel as professionals in the mechanical engineering field. The department will prepare the students to provide the facilities and environment conducive to high quality education to get diverse careers. It engages the students in academic as well as scholarly activities.
